Heart to Heart

Heart to Heart, developed by Debi Maskell-Graham, is a fun and effective early intervention attachment programme for parents/carers and their children/teens to attend together. The programme can be delivered in small groups or with individual parent-child dyads, over 6 – 8 weeks.

Heart to Heart is based on the latest attachment research which shows that supporting the parent-child attachment relationship sets the scene for the best outcomes for children right into adulthood.

The gentle programme and playful approach focuses on the quality of the parent-child relationship. Using low-key activities parent/carers learn and practice Reflective Functioning skills, which research has identified is a key parental capacity associated with attachment security.
Who is Heart to Heart suitable for?

The programme is likely to be beneficial for any parent-child relationship and can act as a preventive measure as well as supporting parent/carers who are struggling with their child or teen, possibly due to difficult life experiences. Heart to Heart is also recognised by the Adoption Support Fund under ‘Therapeutic Parenting’.
Heart to Heart is suitable for children from 5 to 15 years. Groups are split into two approximate age groups 5 - 9 year olds, and 10 - 15 year olds.

Heart to Heart aims to:

-
Strengthen the attachment security between parent-child, through enjoyable, interactive and low-key activities
-
Develop parent/carers awareness of child development and attachment
-
Support parent/carers confidence
-
Share evidence-based tools and techniques to help parents/carers manage stress and develop resilience
-
Develop a supportive network with other parents/carers that may continue after the programme ends
Heart to Heart provides an ideal opportunity for parents/carers and their children to strengthen their relationship and gain new knowledge, whilst having lots of fun together!
